William Smiths Family

Legend has it that William Smith was a son of Jim Smith who died at Buckminster in 1844. This is possible, as William was born about 1790. He always gave his place of birth as Coleorton Leicestershire, but no certain trace of him is found in the parish register baptisms there. There is a William Smith c.1797 s/o Samuel and Mary but no other info to be sure he is the right person.

Jim Smith reputedly died aged 90, which is almost certainly an exageration. His wife was reputedly Seperata Boss, but I have found no trace of a woman with that name in the right timeframe. I did however, find a Seperata Heron, d/o Frank and Margaret christened in 1779, which could be a possible candidate, especially since we dont know the exact age of William.

William married Ann Elliott,  who was baptised at Willoughby On The Wolds, Nottinghamshire, in 1791. She was the d/o John Elliott and Jemima Smith.

William and Ann settled for at least part of the year, at Cagthorpe, which is part of the Wong, at Horncastle, Lincolnshire. It was a known place for travelling folks to settle, being where the horse fairs were held. William died in 1876, and Ann in 1877.

Their known children were:
